Crochet - Scarves

These days I bring crochet project with me when I go out.
Here are the results so far.

Crochet Scarves

Blue Scarf
Yarn: Rowan 4Ply Soft 369 Blue Bird
Hook: 3/0

Brown Scarf
Yarn: Hamanaka Extra Fine Slim
Hook: 3/0

I knit them using same pattern. The pattern says you crochet 12 repeats of pattern but I did 15 for both of them.

I love Rowan 4Ply Soft because it's really soft as its name. But I just realised that it is not soft very much when it's crochetted. Still it is good for crochetting, too.

Hamanaka's yarn is much softer than 4Ply Soft and because of its softness, it's not as good as 4Ply Soft for crochetting I think. But if you prefer softer crochetted fabric, it's for you.

BTW, boy, crochet is portable. Before I started the blue scarf, I brought half-finished knitting project with me when I go to work. Oh, but crochet project is portable... much more portable than the knitting one.

Here's close-up of the pattern.

This is one of my favourite pattern. I made a baby blanket using this.

Knitting - Odessas!

So far I've made two Odessas.

My first one is this.
Odessa
Yarn: Rowan Classical Yarns Cashsoft DK 507 Savannah
Beads: TOHO 4mm Beads No.141
Cast-on: Twisted German Cast-on.
I followed the instruction.

And my second is this.
Navy Odessa
Yarn: Rowan Classical Yarns Cashsoft DK 514 Navy
Beads: TOHO 4mm Beads No.21
Cast-on: Twisted German Cast-on.
I followed the instruction but added 10 more stitches.

How I love this cap! And how I look ugly in these caps with my too large jowls;-(

But I just can't stop knitting Odessa. The pattern is exteremely fun to knit. And I love knitting with beads. I once tried to knit a beret on ROWAN MAGAZINE. It was knitted with Yorkshire Tweed 4ply and a lot of beads. I really love that but at the same time I was afraid that it might be very heavy with tons of beads.
I asked for some advices at ROWAN Yarn store and got one. A lady in the store told me it would be pretty without beads.
Well, I thought so, too. But still I couldn't give up beads.

Now Odessa, you don't have to worry about the weights. It is light as if there's no bead at all.

By the way, I love the whorl of Odessa.
Here's one.
Put on my Odessa

And one more.
Odessa and its Whorl

Now I'm thinking of knitting a scarf or two to go with my Odessas.
I'm looking for some patterns. It would be just plain K1P1 or K2P2 ribbing, though.

Knitting - Love At First Sight

I'd rather not beleive in a love at first time. Romeo and Juliet? Well, maybe it sometimes happens. But not to anybody and not anytime and not for me.

Out of the blue, there came a cap and I fell in love at the very moment I saw it.
That is Odessa.

I happened to have Rowan Classic Yarns Cashsoft DK. I immediately went to buy some beads and started.
Here's how I'm doing so far.

Odessa in progress

It is so fun to knit Odessa! I can't quit knitting without my strong will to do so. The pattern is fun to knit. It is really well-considered, wonderful and beautiful.

I'm using the Savannah 507 and beads are TOHO E Beads No.141 size 6 (4.0mm).
I love knit with beads. I've tried garter stitches and knit beads in the back or slip stitches with yarn and beads in front. This is the first time I use knit stitches and knit the beads in front.
Speaking of beads, you have to move them little by little with care. I usually move five from ten beads at a time. You need to be careful not to leave the bead in back when you knit. Also, you need to watch out for the beads when you knit the second round. But I think that's about it. It's no big deal. All you have to do is try.

Knitting - How Do I Manage to Knit, I Wonder

Sometimes I wonder how I manage the time to knit.
Knowing that everybody's busy and every knitter knits still, I just wonder.

Anyway, here's what I'm up to with my second Jaywalker.

Second Jaywalker

I'm thinking of knitting Jaywalker for my father and I got yarns same as this one. So this Jaywalker is somewhat a swatch.
Everybody emphasizes the importance of knitting a swatch before you start your project. And I, too, understand that and do take time to make my swatch almost everytime. Well, I confess I don't make swatches when I knit a scarf, and sometimes don't when I knit a cap.

Speaking of the socks, usually my swatch would be the first sock. I don't particularly follow the gauge written with the pattern. After all, it is ok if the finished socks fit me.

Now I'm considering of applying short row heels this time. My heels are fat and big so I applied the instructed heels for my first Jaywalker and they fit me very well. But this time the yarn is a little heavier and leg is a little wider. That makes me really think of heels.
