Just in middle of Bookmark-Tatting mode now. I'm not a bookmark person, but I'm using both of them right now. They are very good for marking patterns in knitting books as well as tatting books.

Running out of Energy

Tatted Motif by Garyou
Tatted Motif, a photo by Garyou on Flickr.

This motif was supposed to be a bookmark, Christina in _Tatted Bookmark - cross-shaped._
But the thread on the shuttle was a little too short and above all, I was running out of energy to finish it up.
So, a bookmark-to-be turned out a square motif.

I've been working on a tatting project using lace weight yarn. It seems there's a long way ahead with this project.

And here's another bookmark I made. The picture is a little before finishing tatting.

Black Magics and a Motif

Black Magics by Garyou
Black Magics, a photo by Garyou on Flickr.

I made the blue one first. I didn't feel like blocking it. Then I made the green one. It came out a little bit better, I think.
Maybe I should try tatting another one. Would it be better?

Yesterday, I made this bead-tatted motif designed by Nina Libin.

Bead-Tatted Motif
It is supposed to become a bag charm. I used silk thread. Beads are for bead weaving so their sizes are almost exactly same. This was my first time to use those kinds of beads. It's a bit annoying to thread all the beads, but the result is neat.

I made this for my friend's birthday. The main present is a book and I'm going to put this bookmark between pages.

Motif #10: Too Large for a Book

Large Cross by Garyou
Large Cross, a photo by Garyou on Flickr.

On Saturday, I've received the POP-A-BOBBIN Tatting Shuttle. It's made from Purpleheart.
Right after opened the envelope, I started to tat this, a Large Cross designed by Mary Konior. The pattern is in her book, _Tatting with Visual Patterns._
I've made this bookmark once with Olympus #40 and it became too large for a size of books I usually read.
This time, I've made it with Lisbeth #40, finer than Olympus #40.
As you can see, it's still a bit large for a book under that.
Maybe I should try for a Small Cross.

The shuttle is beautiful and I had really wonderful time tatting with it. So, the awkward chains are on me. I've tried to tat every chain evenly as possible. But, well, I'll try that later.

Motif #4 Tatted Bookmark

Another issue is split rings. I've tried it for a while recently, and I think I've got it.
This bookmark is one of those exercises. Jane's bookmark.

I used Olympus #40. It is strange but this green thread makes stitches crisp. It seems turquoise thread does, too. I think that's because of dyes. I love this colour and its crispness.

Motif #2 Floral Bookmark

I don't usually use bookmarks when I'm reading. I just remember the page number.
At the same time, I love to tat bookmarks. They are small, pretty, and make me experience finishing.
In knitting (and maybe crochet, too), you do cast-on, and knit. But finishing, you don't do as much as casting-on. At least, I haven't. There are too many unfinished objects around me.
I've made this bookmark of Kersti a lot and still I have some difficulty at the end. It is hard for me to join the final petal to a picot on the third petal of the previous flower.
Maybe I'll tat this more and find out more comfortable way to join.
I used Lisbeth #40 Sherbet Delight. It's my favourite colourway and it looks pretty in this bookmark. But #40 is a bit finer. #20 would look nice.

Tat, Crochet, Tat, Tat

Bookmarks
Originally uploaded by Garyou.
I've seen a lot of beautiful tatted bookmarks on the web the other day.
You can see them here. Wonderful. Gorgeous. Beautiful.

And... yeah, I found myself wanting to make some, too.
So I've tatted some. The blue one is made with Anchor Mercer Crochet 40 Col.131, the pink gradation one is made with Olympus Gold #40 Col.M15, and the light blue gradation one is made with Olympus Gold #40 Col.M12. I've made another one with Leigh's Overdyed Pearl #12 in Nordic Blue.
I usually don't make something I've already finished, but this pattern, Floral, is different. It's easy, and fan to tat. You can find the pattern at Kersti's website.

As already written, I'm not a bookmark person. I don't use it. But I can't resist making them.
The second from left is crochet fan bookmark and you can find the pattern here. This one is also not so difficult to make. Well, it's easy and funt to crochet. I could make it one after another if I had enough thread. This one, I used Anchor Pearl Cotton #8 Col.1344. The bookmark is kind of soft. I would use crochet cotton next time.

So, I tat a lot these days. Knitting and crochet projects, I put them on to Ravelry, but tatting projects. It's not prohibited, I suppose, but I just hesitate to do so with my tatting stuffs.

And I believe you've already known, I'm not a tassel person either. I put one to the blue one, but not to the other three. It would be nice to add tassels to them. Mmh, I'll think about it.
