Away from Home

I'm now in Hakata, Fukuoka. It's about 2 hour flight from where I live.
On the way, I dropped a bolt (maybe a nut) on aero plane. Fortunately I've found it. Yay.

Shuttle tatted motif and Needle tatted one

I picked up a shuttle when I started tatting. I also love to tat with a needle.
Though I seldom needle tat, I love the way my hand moves with thread and needle.

This photo shows how I tatted same patterns with a shuttle and a needle. Left motif is made with a shuttle, and right one with needle. The needle tatted one is rather stiff and at the same time soft.

I don't needle tat so often mainly because it scares other people a bit. Some people afraid of pointed thing, like Eric Idle :-)

Before Blocking

Before Blocking by Garyou
Before Blocking, a photo by Garyou on Flickr.

In fact, I did block this doily once; it didn't come out well.

As blogged before, I used the same pattern as my first tatted doily. I learned how to tat with a shuttle and a ball from this pattern. My first tatting book doesn't give me enough instruction how to tat with a shuttle and a ball. FUJITO Teiko's book tells me that simply and straightforwardly. Without her book, I'd quitted tatting.

Now I'm thinking of my next tatting project.

Hexagon Motif

I was really impressed by Linda's hexagon motifs, and I want to make something like that.
I looked into "Minitat", picked up one motif, and didn't do the centre ring. I'll tat two more and make a triangular-shape-something.

I made this for my friend's birthday. The main present is a book and I'm going to put this bookmark between pages.

Hexagon Motif

Hexagon Motif by Garyou
Hexagon Motif, a photo by Garyou on Flickr.

This is the motif I tatted while ago and once decided to forget about. I tried to forget this because it was oh so awful. Too long joining picots were the reason.
After blocking, it doesn't seem as bad as before.
This motif requires SCMR. You can also use split rings to climb up rows.
Pale blue and light beige would look cool, I thought, but not so much.

I would like to make this motif again.

Tatted Motif

This is what I've been working in my lunch hour. I was supposed to spin while taking my lunch break, though.
Maybe I'm too tired so I tat instead of spin. I tend to take something with smaller tools when I"m tired, crochet rather than knitting, tatting rather than crochet.

Maybe I'll be back to my spinning, maybe I'll tat more motifs.
